  • The Canisius College men's basketball team will continue its three-game MAAC homestand this evening when the Golden Griffins play host to Loyola (Maryland).
  • The Griffs are 13-8 overall and 6-4 in MAAC play after losing to Niagara 66-65 Jan. 27. Canisius has now lost two MAAC games this year in the game's final three seconds.
  • Loyola (Md.) is the MAAC's defending champion and starts tonight with a 15-7 overall record and a 7-3 record in league play. The Greyhounds lost to Iona 79-71 Jan. 27 at home.


  • After giving up a season-high 97 points at Iona Jan. 13, the Griffs have held their last four opponents (Manhattan, Siena, Rider and Niagara) to an average of 55 points per game.
  • The Griffs enter the final MAAC game of January with a winning conference record for the first time since 2006-07, when the team was 6-5 heading into February.
  • This game tonight will mark the match-up of the MAAC's two top rebounding teams. Loyola is averaging a MAAC-high 36.2 rebounds per game while the Griffs  rank second in the conference with 35.9 boards per contest.
  • As a team, Canisius comes into tonight's game averaging 9.2 3-point field goals per game, which ranks second in the MAAC and fourth in the nation.
  • Junior forward Chris Manhertz was credited with his third double-double of the season (seventh in his career) after he scored a career-high 17 points while pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds in the team's loss to Niagara Jan. 27.
  • Senior guard Isaac Sosa had 14 points in the loss to Niagara Jan. 27 and starts this game averaging 12.8 points per game, which ranks 14th in the conference.
  • Senior Freddy Asprilla has missed the team's last two games because of an ankle injury. He is listed as day-to-day by the Canisius athletic training staff.
  • This will be Loyola's final road game in the Koessler Athletic Center as a member of the MAAC. The Greyhounds will join the Patriot League for the 2013-14 academic year.


  • Loyola (Md.) comes into tonight's game with a 15-7 overall record and a 7-3 mark in league action. The Greyhounds have won three of their last four and six of their last eight games.
  • Loyola leads the league in scoring defense (60.8 points per game) and in field goal percentage defense, with opposing teams shooting 40.3 percent from the floor.
  • Junior Dylan Cormier leads Loyola and ranks fourth in the MAAC with his 17.6 points per game scoring average.
  • MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Erik Etherly is good for 14.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.


  • This marks the 57th time these two Jesuit schools have met on the hardwood, with Canisius leading the all-time series 34-22.
  • Loyola swept the 2011-12 regular-season series from Canisius, and the Greyhounds start tonight with wins in three of the last four meetings.
  • Loyola has won five times in its last seven trips into the Koessler Athletic Center, including last year's 72-50 win here in Buffalo Jan. 29, 2012.
  • This series dates back to Jan. 29, 1955 where the Griffs posted a 73-63 in The Aud.
