Two Canisius Hall of Famers Pass Away

The Canisius College athletic department is saddened to learn of the passing of two Canisius Sports Hall of Famers. Ray Jacobi '50 passed away Saturday, Feb. 2 and Larry O'Connor '53 passed away in the morning hours Feb. 7.

Jacobi was inducted into the Canisius Sports Hall of Fame in 1976 after playing as a two-way tackle for the Golden Griffins' football team. A three-time All-Little Three honoree, Jacobi was the football team captain in 1949 and was a member of the 1948 Canisius squad that played in the Great Lakes Bowl in Cleveland, Ohio.

O'Connor was a three-year letterwinner for the Canisius men's basketball program and he was enshrined into the College's Sports Hall of Fame in 1977. O'Connor led the team in 1952 team with his team-high 18.7 points and 15.0 rebounds per game. During the 1952 season, he scored a career-high 42 points in a win over John Carroll and his 15.0 rebounds per game that year is tied for second on the school's single-season rebounding average chart.
