Junior
Garrett Cortright (Hamburg, N.Y.)
was selected as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on
Monday. Cortright wins the award for the second time in his career.
Cortright
opened the Canisius season with a dominant performance, as the junior went
seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, walking one and
striking out eight. The 6-foot-5 righty struck out the first four batters he
faced and didn't allow a Delaware batter past first base until the sixth inning
and retired six of the first seven leadoff batters on the day.
A
preseason All-MAAC selection, Cortright also won the award after his first
career start when Cortright allowed one run, one walk and five hits while
striking out seven in 7.2 innings in a win over Creighton.
Canisius returns to the field for a four-game
series at UNC Asheville this weekend. First pitch for the single game on Friday
is set for 3 p.m.
