After helping the Canisius College women's lacrosse team to
a 2-0 week, both sophomore Tori Quinn and senior Morgan
Leonard were honored by the MAAC on Monday. Quinn
collected the conference's Offensive Player of the Week award, while Leonard was
named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Quinn led the Canisius attack to the wins over LIU Brooklyn
and Duquesne, totaling 12 points, 10 goals and two assists. In Tuesday's win
against the Blackbirds, Quinn set a career high with six points on four goals
and two assists. She then duplicated her feat with another six points in
Sunday's 11-9 overtime victory against the Dukes, scoring six of the team's 11
tallies, including the game-winning goal in the extra session.
The Orangeville, Ontario native now leads the Griffs with 28
points, 19 goals and nine assists this season. She currently ranks second in
the MAAC with 4.00 points per game, second with 2.71 goals per game and third
with 1.29 assists per game.
Leonard continues to be one of the top defensive players in
the country this season. The senior captain anchored the Griffs back line to
the two wins, collecting eight draw controls, seven caused turnovers and six
ground balls during the week. Leonard was especially strong in the team's
overtime win against Duquesne, leading the Griffs with five caused turnovers,
four ground balls and three draw controls. She also added five points and four
goals on the offensive end during the week.
The Sykesville, Md. native currently ranks second in the
country with 3.29 caused turnovers per game. She also leads the Griffs with 25
ground balls and ranks second on the squad with 19 draw controls. The Preseason
MAAC Player of the Year, Leonard has added 19 points, 14 goals and five assists
this season.
The weekly accolade is the fourth for Leonard during her
career, while Quinn picked up her first career MAAC Offensive Player of the
Week honors.
Quinn, Leonard and the Griffs look to continue their winning
ways on Tuesday, hosting Monmouth in non-conference action. First draw at the
Demske Sports Complex is scheduled for 4 p.m.
