Carrig, Romano Tie for Eighth in Rhode Island

Canisius senior Michael Carrig and freshman Andrew Romano tied for eighth overall and the Golden Griffins took sixth in the field at the 2013 Rhody Invitational at Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, R.I.

Carrig shot a team-best 77 on Sunday to post a two-round total of 158. Romano carded an 81 on Sunday and tied with Carrig for eighth with his 158 score for the weekend. Senior Mike Spiotta shot an 83 in the final round to tie for 13th.

As a team, Canisius shot 327 on Sunday to post a two-day score of 642, which was five strokes behind fifth-place Fordham. Host Rhode Island won the team title with a two-day score of 622, seven strokes better than second-place Delaware. Rhode Island senior Branden Chicorka shot an even-par 71 in the final round and won the medalist crown with a 36-hole score of 148.

The golf team will return to action April 12-13 at the Detroit Titan Invitational in Highland, Mich. Rounds one and two of the 54-hole tournament will be played Friday, April 12, at Prestwick Country Club.
