Following a successful mid-season racing trip to Florida, the Canisius College rowing team returns to the Northeast to compete in one of the premier regattas on the East Coast. The Golden Griffins will make their second appearance in program history at the Knecht Cup on April 13-14 in Camden, N.J. along the Cooper River. The Griffs' Varsity Eight will compete in the first heat of the race on Saturday morning at 11:33 a.m.

The Golden Griffins find themselves in a familiar racing environment, opening their spring season along the Cooper River at the Jesuit Invitational on March 16. The Golden Griffins' Varsity Eight finished third overall (7:56.0) ahead of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponents Loyola (8:25.8) and Fairfield (8:39.2) to secure their first MAAC rowing weekly honor in program history.

The Griffs will face a much stronger field at the Knecht Cup compared to their recent trip down the Cooper River. Competing in the first heat of the Varsity Eight race at the Knecht Cup, the Griffs will be joined alongside Delaware, Drexel, Bucknell, and George Mason. In order to advance to the semifinal round, the Griffs must finish in the top three of the heat.

The Griffs' Varsity Eight will include junior Lynna Paradiso, senior Stephanie SanFilipo, junior Nancy Kennish, junior Liz McKinney, senior Bridget Laszewski, freshman Nora Kennon, senior Monica Klenk, sophomore Liz Reinwald, and freshman coxswain Hannah Blum.

The field of 33 crews in the Varsity Eight race will include crosstown opponent Buffalo, Rutgers, Barry, Colgate, UConn, Villanova, North Carolina, and Alabama. The field is comprised of member institutions of the Big East, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and Conference USA.

For the third straight weekend, the Griffs will take to the water against MAAC opponents. This weekend's race will serve as a litmus test for the Golden Griffins heading into the MAAC Rowing Championship on April 27, offering the Griffs the deepest field of MAAC opponents leading to the conference championship. A total of four MAAC schools will compete at the Knecht Cup in the Varsity Eight Race. Joining the Griffs will be Marist, Fairfield, and Robert Morris. Robert Morris will race in the third heat followed by both Fairfield and Marist in the sixth heat.

Upon returning from their trip to the Sunshine State, the Griffs' Varsity Eight earned its second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly honor this season. At the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association (FIRA) Championships at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla, the Griffs finished third overall among a field of ten crews.

The Golden Griffins' Varsity Eight crossed the finish line at 7:52.3 with a 3.3 second lead over MAAC affiliate Jacksonville (7:55.6). The win marked the Griffs' third of the season over a MAAC opponent with victories over both Fairfield and Loyola at the Jesuit Invitational to open the spring schedule.
