Golf Closes Out Weekend at NC State Tournament

The Canisius College golf team ended its final tune-up before the MAAC Golf Championships on Sunday, posting a team score of 318 in round two of the Wolfpack Spring Open in Raleigh, N.C. Canisius placed 13th in the event, which was won by No. 10 Duke.

Canisius senior Michael Carrig shot a 77 on Sunday and finished the 36-hole event tied for 57th with his two-round score of 157. Fellow senior Mike Spiotta shot 80 on Sunday and tied for 62nd, while freshman Hunter Sagar also shot 80 in the final round and took 65th place with a tournament score of 159.

The Duke Blue Devils won the team event with a two-day total of 575, which was one-under par for the event, held at Lonnie Poole Golf Course on NC State's campus. The host NC State Wolfpack placed second with a combined score of 577, while Clemson (582), St. John's (589) and Francis Marion (595) rounded out the top-five. Albion Choi of NC State won the individual championship with his two-day score of 137, highlighted by his six-under par score off 66 on Sunday.

Canisius will return to the course April 26-28, at the 2013 MAAC Golf Championships at Disney's Palm Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
