Women's Basketball Announces Postseason Awards

The Canisius College women’s basketball team has announced its annual postseason awardwinners for the 2012-13 season. Four of the five awards were voted on the team’s student-athletes.

Senior Allison Braun was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season. A two-time team captain, Braun played in all 31 games for the Golden Griffins, making 16 starts. The Erie, Pa. native averaged 4.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game to go along with a 43.1 field goal percentage and 25 steals. Braun also received the Unsung Hero Award from her teammates, which goes to the student-athlete who doesn’t receive public recognition for her role and sacrifice to the program.

Junior Jen Lennox was voted the Most Improved Player. Lennox averaged 6.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in 13.7 minutes during the final nine games of the season. The 6-foot-3 forward ranked fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a 1.1 blocks per game average.

Sophomore Kayla Hoohuli received the Best Defensive Player award. Hoohuli appeared in all 31 games, making 28 starts, and had three steals. Junior Jen Morabito was awarded the Coaches’ Award. The 5-foot-9 guard appeared in all 31 games, averaging 5.5 points and making 47 3-pointers. The Binghamton, N.Y. native ranked ninth in the MAAC at 1.5 3-pointers per game and fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (37.9).
