Senior forward Brianna Smith was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Team, the conference announced on Wednesday. It’s the second time Smith has received the honor after being named to the team prior to the 2011 season. The team was voted on by the conference’s 11 coaches.
Smith finished ranked second in the MAAC in goals (11) and points (22) in 2012. She led Canisius in goals, points, shots (57), shot percentage (.193) and game-winning goals (3).
The 2010 MAAC Rookie of the Year, Smith earned All-MAAC First-Team honors at the end of the 2012 season for the second time. Smith currently ranks fourth in goals and seventh in points at all-time Canisius.
The Griffs were picked to finish ninth in the MAAC preseason poll, which was also released today. The coaches tabbed Fairfield as the favorite to win the MAAC.
Canisius will kickoff the 2013 season at Cleveland State on Friday at 7 p.m.
