1994 Softball Team The 1994 softball team is the fourth team to be enshrined in the Canisius Sports Hall of Fame, joining the 1955-56 men’s basketball team, the 1948 football team and the 1982-83 women’s basketball team. The Griffs posted a 36-8 overall record and a 7-1 mark in MAAC play in 1994, capped with a trip to the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament. Canisius won both the 1994 MAAC regular season and tournament titles and then went on to beat UNC-Greensboro in a best-of-three play-in series to earn a date with No. 1 Arizona in the NCAA Tournament regional. Canisius lost to the top-seeded Wildcats, but bounced back to beat Rutgers before being eliminated by Texas A&M. The Griffs won the 1994 East Carolina Pirate Invitational and placed second at the 36-team Georgia Tech Invitational during the regular season and closed out the year with the MAAC Player of the Year (Jody Tassone), the MAAC Championship MVP (Michelle Corrigan) and the MAAC Coach of the Year (Mike Rappl). All three of those individuals are already members of the Sports Hall of Fame.
