The Canisius College men's basketball team travels to meet MAAC-newcomer Quinnipiac for the first time in school history tonight as the two teams clash inin the TD Bank Sports Center in Hamden, Conn. The game will be broadcast live on SNY, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.

Canisius starts its weekend trip to the state of Connecticut tonight when the Golden Griffins take on Quinnipiac live on SNY.
The Griffs are coming off a 78-65 win over Marist in the Koessler Athletic Center on Jan. 26. The win moved Canisius to 8-0 at home this season and 20-4 in the KAC under second-year head coach Jim Baron.
In the win over Marist, Canisius senior Billy Baron matched a career-high with 38 points. Baron ranks fourth in the nation in scoring average (24.2 points per game) and his 38 points against the Red Foxes marked the fifth time this season he’s scored 30 or more in a game.
The Griffs come into this game with an 14-7 overall record and an 8-2 mark in MAAC play. The 8-2 start to league play is the program’s best 10-game start to a conference season since 1996-97.

• Canisius senior Billy Baron was named the Lute Olson Award National Player of the Week and the MAAC Player of the Week on Monday after he averaged 34.5 points per game last week in home victories over Niagara and Marist.
• Canisius senior Chris Perez scored 14 points (all in the second half) in the win over Marist. The Griffs are 9-3 this season when he posts double figures in the scoring column.
• Senior forward Chris Manhertz had nine rebounds in the win over Marist Jan. 26, to give him 707 for his career. He is the ninth player in Canisius history to pull down more than 700 career rebounds, and he is averaging 7.0 boards per game in the team’s last five contests.

• Quinnipiac comes into this game with a 12-7 overall record and a 7-3 mark in MAAC play. The Bobcats are coming off a 90-86 overtime win at Manhattan Jan. 26.
• The Bobcats are averaging 77.9 points per game this season, which ranks third in the MAAC and 48th nationally. Quinnipiac has scored 75 or more points in five of its last eight games and in 11 games this season overall.
• Quinnipiac is one of the nation’s top rebounding teams. The Bobcats average 47.1 rebounds per game as a team and start tonight’s game with the country’s best rebounding margin at plus 12.8.
• Senior forward Ike Azotam starts tonight averaging a double-double with 16.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. He ranks ninth in the MAAC in scoring and first in rebounds per game. His 11.7 boards per contest is third-best in the country.
• As a team, Quinnipiac has four players averaging in double figures, with senior guard Umar Shannon chipping in 14.1 points per game. Junior Ousmane Drame is good for 12.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per contest. Azotam, Drame and junior Zaid Hearst (7.7 rebounds per game) rank Nos. 1, 2 and 4 in the MAAC in rebounding average. 

• Tonight’s game between Canisius and Quinnipiac will mark the first meeting in program history.
• Dating back to 2005-06, Canisius is 11-9 in its last 20 games when meeting an opponent for the in school history.
• Canisius head coach Jim Baron has coached against Quinnipiac three times in his 27 years as a Division I head coach, with all three meetings coming when he was the head man at Rhode Island. In those three contests, Baron holds a 2-1 record.
