Griffs supporting Griffs seemed to be the theme this week. Our men’s and women’s basketball teams headed to their MAAC tournaments and hockey took on Sacred Heart as the first opponent in their play-off run. Although we couldn’t make it to Massachusetts Friday or Saturday to watch either of the basketball teams play, we cheered from home.
On Saturday a group of us gathered at Pearl Street Grill & Brewery to watch the MAAC Men’s basketball quarter final game between Canisius and Siena. The people at Pearl Street designated the entire basement to Canisius and had the game playing on TV’s all around. We were not the only ones to attend the Pearl Street viewing party; we were joined by alumni, friends of the college and other Canisius fans including the Kotas family. Between the wings and the energetic atmosphere we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! (Petey asked us to take selfies while watching the game look at the photo album to see them!)
A few members of the team even made their way to Springfield, Mass. on Sunday for the Semi-final game. While others watched from home and even others watched while working the Sabres game as fundraising event for our team.
We appreciate the warm thoughts being sent our way, but sadly it doesn’t seem like Buffalo is ready for spring just yet. We have decided that ‘you know you’re from Buffalo when: it’s 37 degrees and you’re ready to ditch the jackets and Under Armour for shorts and t-shirts’. Hopefully the weather will realize we are 10 days away from spring, but until then we are trying to keep warm.
I’d like to give a shout out to our right hand man Joe Rutigliano. Joe is our team’s work study, but he is much more than that, he is a part of the team. Joe even gets his own row on the bus trips while freshmen are left doubling up. He tackles whatever tasks coach throws at him and is at the mercy of the assistant coaches. We like to refer to him as “Mini Teeter” and we think he secretly likes the nickname. A few weeks ago Joe decided to run for President of the Undergraduate Student Association and elections are this week...if you are a student and reading this I encourage you to vote for Joe he will go above and beyond to make sure the job is done right and I speak from first-hand experience.
Just keep Re’Laxing,
Good luck to the hockey team as they continue to pursue another Atlantic Hockey Championship!
