The Canisius golf team will open the spring portion of its 2013-14 season Sunday, April 6, when the Golden Griffins travel to take part in the Lafayette Spring Invitational, head coach Todd Hummel announced today. In all, the Blue and Gold will compete in four spring tournament, capped by the 2014 MAAC Golf Championships at the Disney Palm Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
After playing playing in the 36-hole event at Lafayette April 6-7, the Griffs will travel to the 54-hole Detroit Titans Invitational at Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland Mich., April 14-15. The following week, Canisius will take part in the Oak Hill Intercollegiate, a 54-hole tournament which will be hosted by Notre Dame. That event will be played at the famed Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, N.Y. Oak Hill has hosted 11 major tournaments, including the 2013 PGA Championship which was won by Jason Dufner.
The Griffs will close out the 2013-14 season at the MAAC Golf Championship, which will be played at the Disney Palm Course. Last year, the Blue and Gold placed fourth at the conference's championship event, the best finish for the program since 1997.
The Canisius golf team had a strong fall season, posting top-10 finishes in four of the five events played. Canisius' roster is made up of seven players - four sophomore and three freshmen.
