The Canisius College rowing team will host its lone home event of the 2013-14 year in a final tune-up before the MAAC Championships on Friday.
The Griffs will host Mercyhurst out of the Frank Llyod Wright Fontana boathouse on the Black Rock Channel.
"We're excited to host Mercyhurst on our home course this weekend," said head coach Joel Furtek. "After a record winter, we're finaly in "Spring" mode and enjoying the great water at West Side Rowing Club. Mercyhurst is always a fast crew and we expect a real challenge, which is key in our preparation for MAACs. I expect hard racing and a great opportunity for both crews. It's Race Day at home!"
Canisius enters the event with their first full week of time on the water in the spring season and one week removed from competing at the Knecht Cup.
The Varsity Four took 20th in that event, with the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight taking 23rd.
The races will be the final regular season contests for Canisius, who heads to the MAAC Championships in West Windsor, N.J. – the same site of last week’s Knecht Cup.
Action is scheduled to get underway at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, with the Varsity Four hitting the water first. That will be followed by the men’s race at 4 p.m. and then the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight at 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. respectively.
