The Canisius swimming and diving teams competed in day one of the Rochester Invite on Friday night and the team performed extremely well on day one of the two-day invitational.
The team scores after day are, New York University, 251, the University of Rochester, 172, Canisius women, 153 and Brandeis University 53. The men's scores are New York University, 234, Canisius men, 204, University of Rochester, 128, and Brandeis University, 68.
The invite started out with the 400-yard medley relay and the team of Hannah Graesser, Marissa Watroba, Alicia Wheeler and Clare Battaglia finished in second place behind New York University with a time of 4:05.16. Following the women's 400-yard medley relay, the men's squad competed in the same event and also recorded a second place finish. The relay team of Christian Westermeier, Wyatt Sintay, Gregory Staebell and Daniel Dirrigl finished with a time of 3:31.95.
Following the medley relays the team's competed in the 1650 freestyle and Sean Wurster was the top finisher for both squads, recording a second place finish with a time of 16:46.22. Following Wurster's second place finish the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Westermeier, Sean Stegemoller, Thomas Kirch and Nicholas Sereday recorded another second place finish with a time of 1:27.01.
In the diving events, Taylor Epstein was the high finisher for the Griffs women's squad finishing in third place in the women's 3-meter with a score of 214.50. On the men's side senior Eddie Quarantillo competed in the 1-meter and finished in third place with a score of 293.05.
The Griffs will compete in day two of the Rochester Invitational tomorrow, as the squads will begin swimming at 10:00 a.m.
