Kwame Oduro Named St. Bonaventure Head Coach

Kwame Oduro, an assistant coach with the Canisius College men's soccer program the last four seasons, was named the head coach at St. Bonaventure, announced by the school on Thursday.

Oduro spent the last four years helping elevate the Golden Griffin program to new heights during his tenure. Canisius won more games (28) in his four seasons than in any other four-year span in the school's history.

“Everyone involved with the Canisius soccer family is sorry to see Kwame leave our program but we are excited to watch him move into the next phase of his coaching career as the St. Bonaventure head coach,” said Canisius head coach Dermot McGrane. “Kwame has played an integral role in rebuilding our soccer program, so I have no doubt that he will have the same impact as he turns the Bonnies into a contender in the Atlantic 10. I personally want to thank him and his wife, Katie, for everything they have done for the Canisius program during the past four years.”

This past season, Oduro helped the Griffs to one of the most successful years in school history. Canisius posted a 9-6-3 record and matched the school standard for wins in a season. Overall, 11 marks in the program's record book were set or tied during the 2014 campaign.

During Oduro's tenure, the Griffs reached as high as second in the NSCAA North Atlantic Poll and received votes in the national poll for the first time. In addition, a Griff has earned NSCAA All-Region accolades four times during the last three seasons – more than the program's entire total prior to McGrane and Oduro's arrival.

Prior to joining the Griffs, Oduro spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Division II Nyack College.
