Cross Country Finishes Strong UAlbany Invite

Cross Country/Track Canisius College Athletics

Select Members of Cross Country Set to Participate in ECAC Championships

Senior Alex Brown, junior Vasilis Kariolis, and freshman Jonathan McDonald will represent Canisius College in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship races at Van Cortland Park in Bronx, N.Y. Saturday Nov. 22.

Members on both teams were given the option to compete, but only Brown, Kariolis, and McDonald took the option. “This is an opportunity for athletes who are still progressing late in the season to have an additional chance to run a solid race on a challenging course,” said Canisius coach Pete Osmond.

“The situation is very different when it is just individuals competing. You take out the team element, and it becomes all about them, their times, and their own personal goals. There is a different approach to races like this, so it should be fun.”

Brown, a top runner for the women's team, will race in her final collegiate showing at the ECAC Championship. Brown looks to improve on her season-best time of 19:36.

Kariolis has led the men's team in every race during the 2008 season, and will represent the men along with McDonald, a freshman runner who has made an impact in multiple races this season.

Race times at Van Cortland Park are 11:30 a.m. for the women's 5k and 12:00 p.m. for the men's 8k.
