Men's Lacrosse and No. 4 Cornell Meet on Tuesday

The Canisius College men's lacrosse team plays its third-consecutive ranked team to open the season when the Griffs play at No. 4 Cornell on Tuesday. Canisius lost its first two games to No. 16 Colgate and No. 12 Princeton, while the Big Red enters the game with a 2-1 mark.

JONES PICKS UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF
? Sophomore Adam Jones has picked up right were he left off in 2008.
? The Preseason MAAC Player of the Year has totaled seven goals in the Griffs' two contests versus ranked opponents.
? Jones currently ranks fourth nationally with 3.50 goals per game.
? The sophomore has also added an assist this season for eight points. He enters the week ranked first in the MAAC and 14th nationally with 4.00 points per game.
? Jones had an immediate impact as a freshman. He became the first Griff to earn All-America honors in 2008 after leading all midfielders nationally with 38 goals.
? The Owen, Sound, Ontario native is a consistent threat for a hat trick. Jones has posted at least three goals in both games this season and 12 of his 18 career contests. He recorded 10 hat tricks during his rookie campaign, the most by a Griff since the 1990 season.

LoCOCO LENDS A HELPING HAND
? Sophomore Nick LoCoco has also returned to his familiar role from the 2008 season.
? LoCoco ranks second on the team with seven points, recording two goals and five assists.
? The Syracuse, N.Y. native currently ranks fifth in the country with 2.50 assists per game. LoCoco finished third nationally with 2.12 assists per game during his rookie season.
? Despite being just 18 games into his collegiate career, LoCoco already ranks 12th in school history with 39 career helpers. His 34 assists last season are the second-most in the school's record book.

JACK EARNS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
? Senior Bryan Jack has anchored the Griffs' defensive effort during the 2009 campaign.
? Jack, who is in his first year as a starter with Canisius, was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against No. 12 Princeton. Jack recorded 10 saves, including eight in the first half as the Griffs held a 3-2 intermission advantage.
? For the season, Jack owns a goals against average of 14.20 and a save percentage of .442.

CANISIUS - CORNELL SERIES HISTORY
? Canisius will face the Big Red for the sixth time in the program's history. Cornell has won each of the five previous meetings by an average score of 19-6.
? The two met last season with Cornell emerging victorious, 14-3. Leading by just two goals late in the first half, the ninth-ranked Big Red tallied the final nine scores of the game to win by 11.

ABOUT THE BIG RED
? Cornell is coming off a tough 14-10 defeat to No. 1 Virginia on Sunday.
? The loss was the first for the Big Red this season, falling to 2-1 during the 2009 campaign.
? Cornell has been strong offensively this season, averaging 12.33 goals per game. They currently rank 10th nationally in scoring offense
? Rob Pannell leads the team with 16 points on six goals and 10 assists. He ranks first in the country with 5.33 points per game and second with 3.33 assists per game.
? Ryan Hurley is second on the team with 13 points, posting a team-leading 11 goals and two assists. He ranks sixth in the NCAA with 3.33 goals per game.
? Kyle Harer has started all three games in net for the Big Red, posting a goals against average of 9.08 and a save percentage of .480.
