*Thomas Colella, Class of 1942- Football

  • Nicknamed "The Albion Antelope" for both his speed and elusiveness on the ground of Albion High School
  • During his time at Canisius, he also received the nicknames "Irontown Express" and "Calamity Tom" 
  • In his first year on varsity as a sophomore, he was named on Frank Korch's Little All-American Second Team
  • He was raised to the Little All-American First Team and to Bill Stern's Little All-American team in Life Magazine and was also considered for the Eastern All-Stars team during his final season
  • During his three years in the football program, he scored 116 points, and gained 914 yards on 199 rushes
  • He also completed 51 of 127 passes for 671 yards, and punted 151 times for an average of 42 yards from scrimmage
  • Drafted in the NFL by the Detroit Lions in 1942, played for the 1945 NFL World Champion Cleveland Rams, and three AAFC Championship Cleveland Browns teams (1946-48) with Otto Graham and Marion Motley
  • Finished his career in 1949 with the Buffalo Bills and was also inducted into the Albion High School Hall of Fame
  • First member of the football program inducted in the Hall of Fame
