Canisius College men's basketball player Rob Gagliardi (Whitby, Ont.) and the Canadian Junior Men's National Team finished in seventh place at the 2009  FIBA U19 World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand. Canada defeated France 82-74 in the seventh-place game on Sunday.

Gagliardi appeared in seven games at the World Championships, averaging 4.4 points per contest and shooting just over 41 percent from the floor. Some of his highlights include a 11-point, five-rebound effort in 27 minutes in the opener against Australia. Gagliardi also scored eight points in each of Team Canada's wins over Syria and Kazakhstan.

Canada posted a 3-3 record in pool play to advance to the quarterfinal round after a 67-57 win over Argentina in the last game of the preliminary round. Canada lost to the United States 93-73 in the quarterfinals on Friday. Puerto Rico defeated Canada 67-65 in a classification round game on Saturday.
