Coach Terry Zeh has announced that senior Allison Braun along with juniors Jen Morabito and Courtney VandeBovenkamp will serve as the captains for the Canisius College women's basketball team during the 2012-13 season. Braun will be a captain for the second consecutive season.

"We have added Courtney and Jen Morabito as assistant captains because they have shown tremendous commitment to the program and represent all that we stand for," Zeh said. "I am excited for them to work with Allison and for her to share all that she has learned in the leadership of our program."

Braun has appeared in 77 games with the Golden Griffins and missed the final 12 games of the 2011-12 season with a lower-leg injury. She averaged 4.6 points and 3.6 rebounds while recording 25 steals and shooting 46.8 percent from the floor in 18 games as a junior. The Erie, Pa. native, who made a baseline jumper with 5.0 seconds remaining to force overtime on Kid's Day against Iona, was voted the team's Most Valuable Player after the season by her teammates.

Morabito averaged 9.0 points last season and led the team with a 38.3 3-point field goal percentage, which ranked 19th nationally. The Binghamton, N.Y. native has made 111 3-pointers during her first two seasons, the fourth-highest total in program history. Morabito earned MAAC All-Rookie Team honors following her freshman season when she made 46 3-pointers and ranked fourth among MAAC freshmen in scoring.

VandeBovenkamp has played in 55 games during the first two years of her career and averaged 4.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 25 appearances last season. The Amherstburg, Ontario native scored the game-winning basket in an overtime win at Rider, pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds in the win over the Broncs and had five blocks against Cornell - the most blocks by a Golden Griffin since 2008.

Canisius opens the season against crosstown rival the University at Buffalo on Friday, Nov. 9. Tipoff in the Koessler Athletic Center is set for 7 p.m. The Golden Griffins return all five starters and 98 percent of their scoring from the 2011-12 team.

Tickets are available through the Canisius College Ticket Office at 716-888-2885.
