The Canisius baseball team rebounded with a 6-3 win over Saint Peter’s University at the Demske Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Griffins improve to 15-7 on the season and are 1-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Krische came through with the two-out, two-RBI single to score sophomore Jesse Puscheck and junior Jose Torralba.
The Peacocks cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth when the first two batters reached. After a sacrifice bunt, an infield single from Matt Speckmann scored James Smith to make it 2-1. Freshman Alex Godzak got out of the jam by inducing Pat Farrell to hit a grounder to Puscheck, and the Griffs went around the horn to complete the double play and end the Saint Peter’s rally.
The Griffs came right back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, starting with a leadoff walk to Krische. Luppens was hit by a pitch with one out and a groundout from junior Jesse Kelso put the runners in scoring position. Foster scored both runners with a two-out, two-RBI double to left and put the Griffs up 4-1.
Saint Peter’s (7-11, 2-1 MAAC) answered with two runs in the top of the sixth to make again it a one-run game. Canisius scored insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings to create some cushion. Junior Shane Zimmer and Luppens had back-to-back singles while Kelso was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Foster then scored pinch runner Manny Hernandez with a sacrifice fly to left to make it 5-3. The Griffs pushed across another run in the eighth, starting with a one-out double from Gruarin. Krische then scored Gruarin with an RBI single and put the Griffs up by three.
Freshman Alex Godzak (3-1) earned the win, allowing three runs on three hits and walking five in 5.2 innings. The trio of redshirt freshman Iannick Remillard, sophomore Eric Stolzenburg and junior Jon Fitzsimmons threw 3.1 scoreless innings of relief.
