Leading the Canisius College women’s lacrosse offense to two wins last week, senior midfielder Morgan Leonard was honored as MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
In two dominating wins against local rival St. Bonaventure and MAAC foe Iona, Leonard led the Canisius attack with nine points and eight goals. The Preseason MAAC Player of the Year, Leonard recorded five points and four goals in an 18-3 win against the Bonnies before adding four tallies in a 16-5 victory over the Gaels in the conference opener.
In 10 games during her senior season, Leonard ranks third on the team with 32 points and second with 26 goals to go along with six assists. She currently places third in the MAAC with 2.60 goals per game and fourth in the conference with 3.20 points per game.
The 2012 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, Leonard also leads the Griffs with 26 caused turnovers this season and 30 ground balls, while placing second on the team with 25 draw controls.
The weekly accolade is the third for Leonard this season as she was also honored as MAAC Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 25 and March 18.
Leonard and the Griffs continue MAAC play this week with a matchup against Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara. The two-time defending conference champions, Canisius plays at Niagara on Wednesday with first draw scheduled for 7 p.m.
