Two home events highlight the 2013 Canisius College cross country schedule, head coach Nate Huckle announced.
The Griffs will kick off the season by playing host to the annual Little Three Championship – a rotating event with crosstown rivals St. Bonaventure and Niagara – Aug. 30. Canisius will also host the inaugural Canisius Alumni Classic, a multi-team event in Delaware Park, Oct. 19.
Canisius will follow up the Little Three Championship with its annual trip to Notre Dame for the National Catholic Championship (Sept. 20). The Griffs will then head to Lehigh for the Brooks Paul Short Run Oct. 5.
The Griffs will then head to the Bronx, N.Y. for back-to-back races. The MAAC Championships will be held November 1 in Van Cortlandt Park, followed by the NCAA Northeast Regional which will also take place in Van Cortlandt Park.
The Canisius men return eight runners from the 2012 team, led by Chad Maloy who was the team’s top finisher in all-six events. Three other returners finished in Canisius’ top-five of at least five events.
The men had their best finishes since 2002 at the MAAC Championships and the National Catholic Championship, as well as the program’s best finish at the Brooks Paul Short Run in 2012.
The Canisius women return eight runners from last season, including every runner to place in the top-five last season. Mikelle Cala, Jaime Wallace and Morgan Atkins highlight the group, and each finished in the top-three during every event in 2012.
