The Canisius College women’s soccer team dropped its first home contest of the season on Wednesday, falling 2-0 to St. Bonaventure (1-1-0) on Wednesday. The loss dropped the Griffs’ record to 1-2-0 on the season.
After putting four shots on net in the first half, Canisius was unable to maintain the momentum after the break, registering just one shot on goal in the second half. Canisius head coach Jim Wendling cited turnovers as the reason for the loss.
“I thought our biggest problem in the second half is that we were passing the ball to the other team,” Wendling said. “Especially in our midfield, we were constantly passing it away to St. Bonaventure and all of a sudden they’re on a counter attack.”
The Bonnies first got on the board in the 57th minute, when Caitlin MacConnell beat senior goalkeeper Megan Tock from 12 yards out in the lower right corner. Just nine minutes later St. Bonaventure added its second goal. This time Molly Curry finished off a Tock deflection. Tock ended the game with five saves.
Canisius will look to rebound on its trip to South Carolina this weekend. First up for the Blue and Gold is Charleston Southern on Fri. Aug. 30, with kickoff at 4 p.m.
