The Canisius College men’s soccer team (4-3-2) heads down the New York State Thruwway on Wednesday to meet the Marist Red Foxes in MAAC soccer action. Game time at Tenny Stadium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., is set for 1 p.m.

GRIFFS OPEN MAAC PLAY WITH A SCORELESS DRAW
• Canisius opened the conference portion of the 2013 schedule against Manhattan Oct. 5 and the teams played to a 0-0 draw.
• The tie against the Jaspers at home moved Canisius to 8-15-2 all-time in MAAC openers.
• Senior goalkeeper Ryan Arvin made five saves for the Blue and Gold to post his third shutout of the season and the fourth in his career.
• Prior to the 0-0 tie against Manhattan, the last time Canisius played a scoreless draw in MAAC action was against Marist at home Oct. 2, 2011.

NON-CONFERENCE RECAP
• The Griffs wrapped up non-conference play with a 4-3-1 record.
• It marks the first time since Canisius joined the MAAC in 1989 that the team posted a winning record in non-conference play in consecutive seasons. The Griffs were 7-1-2 against non-league foes in 2012.
• Canisius finished the 2013 non-conference season strong, going 3-1-1 in its last five games after a 1-2-0 start.
• The key for the Griffs’ improvement was on the defensive end. After allowing nine goals in the first three games of the season (3.00 per game), Canisius has surrendered just five tallies in the last five contests (1.00 per game).

RANKINGS WATCH
• The Griffs moved to ninth in the latest NSCAA North Atlantic Poll, released Tuesday.
• Canisius has reached as high as sixth this season (Sept. 3).
