The Canisius College swimming and diving team will return to the pool one week after sweeping the University of Rochester Invite, in a dual with Geneseo on Saturday.
A number of Griffs turned in impressive performances last week, as freshman Hannah Graesser and sophomore Spencer Bray were named MAAC Swimmers of the Week for their efforts.
The Griffs also saw its first diver in program history qualify for the NCAA regional qualifying meet after junior Eddie Quarantillo scored a 310.65 in the 1-meter dive. The score also broke a school-record that had stood for 18 years.
“I think it’s great for Eddie, it’s a great accomplishment this early in the year,” Vanderzell said. “Throughout the first month and a half you can tell that he put in a lot of hard work not only into diving, but into being mentally prepared for the events, so I’m really happy for him.”
This will be the Griffs’ third meet of the year. Both teams rebounded from close losses to Marist in the season opener to perform well at the University of Rochester Invite, and Vanderzell hopes that continues into this weekend.
“The big thing is that we continue to do the little things right and not take anything for granted,” Vanderzell said. “We have to keep preparing ourselves mentally for every race that we can.”
The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
