For the sixth consecutive season, the Canisius women’s soccer team was honored with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for academic success.
The association honored schools with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better for a full academic year. The Griffs posted a GPA of 3.27 for the 2012-13 school year.
“I’m extremely proud of our girls’ academic achievements,” said head coach Jim Wendling. “It’s the sixth straight time we’ve received the honor, and it shows that our girls understand the importance of excelling in the classroom.”
In addition, Canisius had nine players named to the MAAC All-Academic team this season. Sophomores Mattia Cornell (Communication), Brittany Krause (Health and Wellness) and Tara McPherson (Health and Wellness), juniors Maria Nelms (Health and Wellness), Jenny Piaggione (Special Education) and Brigid St. Leger (Sport Management), As well as Seniors Katie Griffin (Health and Wellness), Kelly McMahon (Physical Education and Health) and Adrianna Suk (Physical Education and Health), all received the MAAC’s recognition for their academic success.
