The Canisius ticket office has announced a capacity crowd for the women’s basketball game against Monmouth University on Friday, Jan. 17, in the Koessler Athletic Center.
More than 2,000 students from local schools will be in attendance when the Golden Griffins face the Hawks. Canisius will have a capacity crowd for Kid’s Day for the fourth consecutive season.
Canisius is 7-2 in its last nine Kid’s Day games in the Koessler Athletic Center.
“Kid’s Day is one of the annual highlights on our home schedule. We love having a packed Koessler Athletic Center full of local students,” Canisius coach Terry Zeh said. “Their enthusiasm has given us a lot of energy and definitely has helped us to some exciting wins during the past few years.”
Last season, Canisius defeated Siena 65-62 on the heels of a half-court buzzer-beater from Tiahana Mills that earned the No. 1 spot on Top Play on ESPN’s SportsCenter. In 2012, Canisius rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit to defeat Iona in overtime. In 2010, Canisius defeated Manhattan 69-65 in double overtime, and in 2008, Canisius rallied from a 57-50 deficit by scoring eight points in the final 75 seconds to defeat Fairfield by one.
Canisius returns to the court on Saturday, when the Golden Griffins open MAAC play against new league member Quinnipiac. Tipoff in the first game of the doubleheader at the KAC is set for 2 p.m.
