QUICK HITTERS

  • The Canisius women’s basketball team closes out the month of January with three road games in the span of six days, starting with Friday’s contest at Fairfield in Alumni Hall.
  • Canisius and Fairfield are meeting for the first time this season. The teams will also play on Feb. 28, in the Koessler Athletic Center on the final weekend of the regular season.
  • Fairfield owns a 32-21 lead in the all-time series and has won the last eight meetings.
  • The last Canisius win in the series came in semifinals of the 2009 MAAC Championship, a 62-55 win in Bridgeport at the Webster Bank Arena.. The last Canisius win at Alumni Hall came on Feb. 11, 2007, a 76-62 win.
  • The 2013-14 season is the 25th year that the Golden Griffins have played in the MAAC.

NOTING THE GRIFFS

  • As of Jan. 22, Canisius is 16th in the country in assisted basket percentage (66.7), which is the second-best percentage in the MAAC.
  • Canisius has shot 40 percent or better in eight games, including a season-high 47.2 percent in the Jan. 12 win at Rider. The Griffs shot 40 percent or better five times in 31 games during the entire 2012-13 season.
  • In the Dec. 29 game at Manhattan, senior Jamie Ruttle became the 21st player in program history to score 1,000 career points. Ruttle has scored in double figures a team-best 11 times this season and 54 times in her career.
  • Senior Jen Morabito ranks sixth in program history in career 3-pointers (188) and is third in 3-point field goal percentage (37.0).
  • Senior Jen Lennox is third in the program’s Division I history with 96 blocks.
  • Junior Kayla Hoohuli, who has scored in double figures in five straight games for the first time in her career, is one of two players in the MAAC to make a 3-pointer in 17 or more games this season.
  • Under Terry Zeh, Canisius is 46-31 in overtime games or games decided by five points or fewer — ranking as the best winning percentage (.597) in the MAAC since 2004-05. Canisius is 4-0 in such games this season.

FAIRFIELD SCOUT

  • Fairfield enters Friday’s game with a 10-7 record and 5-3 record in the MAAC.
  • The Stags have dropped two of their last three games, losing to Marist, defeating Siena in overtime and falling to Iona.
  • Katie Cizynski ranks fourth in the MAAC in scoring (15.3) and fifth in rebounding (8.6).
  • Felicia DaCruz is second in the MAAC in assists per game (5.4). Alexys Vazquez is second in the MAAC at 2.8 3-pointers made per game and fourth with a 43.6 3-point field goal percentage.
  • Fairfield has two of the top five players in the league in terms of minutes played with DaCruz (36.2) and Cizynski (35.0).
  • Fairfield has used the same starting lineup in all 17 games with all five players averaging at least 29.7 minutes per game.
  • Fairfield ranks fifth in the MAAC with a 20.8 turnover percentage. The Stags are fifth in defensive rebounding percentage (67.1) and sixth in offensive rebounding percentage (28.9).
  • Last year, Fairfield scored 31 points per game in the paint against the Griffs. That accounted for 50.4 percent of their points scored.
  • In the last six meetings, Fairfield is shooting 54.2 percent on two-point shots against the Griffs.
  • Joe Frager is in his seventh season with Fairfield.  The Stags have three 20-win seasons under Frager and advanced to the title game of the MAAC Championship twice in the last four seasons.
