The Canisius women’s lacrosse team has received votes in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association preseason poll, which was announced on Monday. It marks the first time in program history that the Griffs received votes in the poll.
“It’s very exciting news for our program,” said head coach Scott Teeter. “We are starting to get national recognition amongst the coaches for our team’s success over the past three seasons.”
Canisius is coming off its third-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2013, and returns 20 letterwinners from that team that fell to Penn State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Five of the Griffs’ first six opponents received votes in the poll, with No. 1 North Carolina, No. 3 Syracuse and No. 20 Boston College all cracking the top-20.
Canisius will kick its season off on the road Feb. 16 when it travels to Syracuse. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
