The Canisius College men's basketball wraps up its weekend homestand on Sunday afternoon when the team plays host to Iona. The Gaels enter Sunday's Hall of Fame Day game in the Koessler Athletic Center as winners of six straight, with their last loss coming to Canisius Jan. 17 in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Canisius closes out its weekend MAAC homestand this afternoon when the Golden Griffins play host to Iona on Canisius Hall of Fame Day.
The Griffs saw their season-long four-game winning streak come to an end on Friday with an 84-73 loss to Manhattan. That also ended Canisius’ eight-game home win streak, the long for the program since 1998-99.
The Griffs come into this game with a 16-8 overall record and a 10-3 mark in MAAC play. The team is one game back of Iona in the MAAC standings. The Gaels are 11-2 in conference play this season.
Today’s game will be the 2,400th contest in Canisius men’s basketball history. The team played its first varsity basketball game on Dec. 7, 1903.

• Canisius senior Billy Baron scored a team-high 22 points in Friday’s loss to Manhattan. He ranks fifth in the nation in scoring average at 23.6 points per game. He also led the Blue and Gold with seven rebounds and seven assists against the Jaspers.
• Canisius redshirt sophomore Dominique Raney has scored 15 points for the Griffs in each of the team’s last two games. Raney is averaging 13 points per contest in Canisius’ last three outings.
• Canisius freshman Zach Lewis scored 13 points and dished out a career-high four assists in the loss to Manhattan on Friday. He made three 3-pointers in that game, the 14th time this season he’s hit multiple 3-point field goals in a game.

• Iona comes into this afternoon’s game on a six-game winning streak. The Gaels are 14-8 overall and 11-2 in the MAAC. Iona’s last loss came to Canisius at home Jan. 17.
• The Gaels lead the MAAC and rank 11th in the nation in scoring average at 83.8 points per game.
• Senior Sean Armand leads the team and ranks fourth in the MAAC in scoring average with 18.6 points per game. Armand is one of five Iona players averaging in double figures this season.
• Armand (67 3-point field goals) and sophomore A.J. English (63 3-point field goals) have combined to make 130 of Iona’s MAAC-leading 232 3-point field goals this year (56.0 percent).
• Defensively, Iona is giving up an average of 78.7 points per game. That ranks 10th in the MAAC and  325th in the nation.

• This is the 63rd meeting between these two schools and Iona leads the series 33-29.
• Canisius has won two of the last three games between these programs, including the first meeting of this season back on Jan. 17, 2014 in New Rochelle, N.Y.
• The Griffs’ win at Iona on Jan. 17 snapped the program’s six-game road losing streak in this series.
• These two teams have no problem scoring points when they square off. In the last five meetings, the teams are averaging a combined 173.6 total points per game.
