Two members of the Canisius College women’s lacrosse team earned MAAC Player of the Week honors after wins over Colgate and Ohio State last week, the league announced on Monday.
Junior attacker Tori Quinn was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, while senior midfielder Maria Kotas took MAAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Quinn tallied eight goals and two assists in Canisius’ two wins last week, including both game winners. In Canisius’ win over Ohio State on Saturday, Quinn netted four goals – including the go ahead goal 3:10 to play – and also assisted on a pair of goals. Quinn’s six points in the contest was one shy of her career high. She also contributed a draw control and caused turnover in the win.
On Tuesday, she helped the Griffs to a one-goal win over the Raiders by scoring four goals on her only four shot attempts. She also won a draw control in the contest.
Kotas made her mark all over the field for the Griffs last week, totaling 10 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers, four draw controls and also chipped in five goals and an assist offensively.
On Tuesday at Colgate, Kotas collected seven ground balls and five caused turnovers – both of which were career bests. She also chipped in a pair of draw controls and even tied her career-best four goals on the offensive end.
In Saturday’s win over Ohio State, Kotas tied her new career high in caused turnovers, forcing another five. The senior collected another three ground balls, won two more draw controls and chipped in a goal and assist.
Quinn, Kotas and the Griffs will return to action on Wednesday, March 12, when the team hosts Louisville. First draw is scheduled for 11 a.m.
