Canisius women’s basketball coach Terry Zeh has announced the signing of Sarah Cooley (Lexington, Ky.) and Saliah Serrette (Natick, Mass.) to National Letters of Intent. The two student-athletes will join the Golden Griffin women’s basketball program starting with the 2014-15 season.

Cooley, a 6-foot-1 forward, played four seasons at Lafayette High School, which advanced to the Sweet 16 of the state tournament in 2014. As a senior, Cooley averaged 9.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while shooting 47 percent from the field. Cooley was recently named to the Kentucky All-Stars Girls’ Basketball Team that will play the Indiana All-Stars this summer.

“Sarah comes from a winning program and was a huge component of that success,” Zeh said. “Her toughness and ability to shoot the basketball at 6-foot-1 is a combination that we really wanted.”

Serrette, a 5-foot-11 guard, averaged 18.2 points and 9.2 rebounds to go along with 1.8 blocks per game at Brewster Academy this past season. Serrette earned NEPSAC All-Star honors in 2014. She is a two-time MVP of The Dual County League and in 2013 at Weston High School, Serrette averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks.

“Saliah’s versatility and size will allow her to play multiple positions, and her skillset fits perfectly with our motion offense,” Zeh said. “She is a hard worker who is excited about the opportunity to play at Canisius.”

Cooley and Serrette join Abby Schwenk (New Holland, Ohio), who signed a National Letter of Intent in November.
