Junior Rohn Pierce (Lockport, N.Y.) has been selected to the watch list for the 2014 Gregg Olson Award.

The award is named after former Auburn Tiger star pitcher Gregg Olson, who became one of the top collegiate players in the nation after an initial season filled with only mixed success. Olson went on to become a two-time All American, first round draft pick, American League Rookie of the Year and MLB All Star. Like Olson, these players have elevated their game to an elite level and in many instances their team has mirrored their success as a direct result.

In 13 starts, Pierce is currently 10-2 with a 2.03 ERA in 97.2 innings. The junior righthander is one of five pitchers in the country with 10 wins and 95 innings pitched. Pierce has thrown at least six innings in all 13 starts and has not walked more than two batters in a start, averaging 1.47 walks per nine innings. A two-time MAAC Pitcher of the Week, Pierce opened the season by defeating No. 5 NC State and Carlos Rodon by throwing seven shutout innings. For his efforts, Pierce was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball.

Pierce leads the MAAC in victories, ERA and innings pitched.

Prior to this season, Pierce was 5-4 with a 4.92 ERA in 128 innings pitched.

Semifinalists are slated to be named, at the start of NCAA Regional play and the finalists are scheduled to be announced at the beginning of Super Regional action. The winner of the 2014 Gregg Olson Award will be named in Omaha, Nebraska during the College World Series, which is to be held this season at TD Ameritrade Park.
