The Canisius College women’s soccer team will host Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday, in the Griffs’ first home contest of the season.
Canisius (0-2-0) will look to get it’s first win of the 2014 season, as the Griffs dropped two road contests this past weekend. Seniors Mallory Illsley and Brigid St. Leger have been the Blue and Gold’s top performers this season. Illsley has 10 shots in two games for the Griffs, including six on goal and St. Leger recorded a career-high 14 saves against Buffalo on Sunday, increasing her save percentage to .833 on the season.
This will be the first game of the season for Roberts Wesleyan. The Redhawks return three of the team’s top-five offensive players from last season.
The last time the two teams met was on Oct. 29, 1983, when the Golden Griffs beat the Redhawks by a score of 3-0. Canisius holds a 1-0-0 all-time record versus Roberts Wesleyan.
After the contest against the Redhawks, the Griffs will go on a three-game road swing, playing cross-town rival St. Bonaventure (Aug. 31) and then traveling to California to take on Pacific (Sep. 5) and Sacramento State (Sep. 7).
