The Canisius Department of Athletics announced today a new, multi-year radio partnership with Timeless WECK AM-1230 and FM-102.9 to broadcast all Canisius men’s basketball games, beginning with the 2014-15 season. The Golden Griffin Broadcast Network will also continue to be streamed online through the school’s official athletic website, GoGriffs.com.
“We are excited to be able to partner with Timeless WECK and Culver Communications and we see this as another positive step forward for our fan base, both locally in Western New York and for those who listen to Canisius games online through the Golden Griffin Broadcast Network,” Canisius Director of Athletics Bill Maher said. “This move continues to show our dedication to one of our flagship sports programs here, and the ability to have our games broadcast on both the AM and FM dial in the Buffalo area is a tremendous asset to our athletic department’s branding efforts.”
Jay Moran, the “Voice of the Griffs” will return for his 15th season as the program’s play-by-play announcer. Each gameday broadcast will feature a 20-minute pregame show and a 20-minute postgame show as well. The first broadcast of the season is set for Saturday, Nov. 15, when the Blue and Gold opens the 111th season in school history by hosting Vermont in the Koessler Athletic Center.

WECK is very proud to be a partner with Canisius, now and moving forward in the future.”
In addition to all men’s basketball games airing on AM-1230 and FM-102.9, the stations will also broadcast a weekly 30-minute Canisius coaches show, which will start in November and run through March. That show will feature a number of Canisius head coaches, including men’s basketball head coach Jim Baron.
Timeless WECK is a 1,000-watt station that airs adult standards music format. The stations also carries Fox News Radio updates, followed by local news and weather updates supplied by Buffalo TV station WGRZ Channel 2.The Griffs return five letterwinners from last year’s team that went 21-13 overall and earned a second-straight berth in the CollegeInsiders.com Postseason Tournament. The school’s 41 total wins under Baron, who is entering his third-year as the team’s head coach, since 2012-13 rank as the second-most of any school in the MAAC.
