The Canisius women’s soccer team is set to travel to California for a two-game road trip this weekend. The Golden Griffins will take on Pacific on Friday, Sep. 5, and Sacramento State on Sunday, Sep. 7.
Head coach Jim Wendling’s squad enters the California trip with a 1-3-0 record, with the team’s victory coming during a double over-time game against Roberts Wesleyan on Aug. 27.
The Griffs have out shot their opponents this season 66–64 and have an even 21-21 corner kicks total. Sophomore Kathleen Lawver leads the Griffs offensively as the mid-fielder has a goal, a .667 shots on goal percentage and two points. Behind the sophomore, is senior Mallory Illsley who leads the Griffs with 20 shots, including 11 on goal. In net for the Blue and Gold is senior Brigid St. Leger, who has a 1.19 goals against average, 22 saves and a .815 save percentage this season.
Scouting the opponents
Pacific (1-3-0) enters Friday’s contest having recorded 30 shots, two goals and 21 corner kicks. The top performers for the Tigers are Alex Hussar, who has five shots on goal and a goal this season, Taylor Ayers who has an assist and Malaya Cabrera who has a goal.
Sacramento State (2-2-0) will enter Sunday’s match behind senior Kassi Anast and two sophomores, Kassidy Kellogg and Jennifer Lum. Anast has two points this season including a goal and a .500 shots on goal percentage and Kellogg and Lum both have two points this season, and a goal as well.
After the two weekend games, the Griffs will host Cleveland State on Friday, Sep. 12 at the Demske Sports Complex.
