After starting the 2014 season last weekend at a tournament in Columbus, Ohio, the Canisius College men’s soccer team returns to Buffalo for its home opener. The Griffs are set to host Bucknell on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Bryant on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Admission is free for the weekend and all men’s soccer games at the Demske Sports Complex.

GRIFFS IN HOME OPENERS
• Canisius is looking to get fans something to cheer about right from the start at the Demske Sports Complex, something the team hasn’t done in some time.
• In their last 11 home openers, the Griffs own a 0-10-1 record (tied Buffalo in 2012).
• The last time Canisius won its first game at the Demske Sports Complex was during the 2002 season when the team earned a 3-2 victory against Duquesne.

O CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!
• The Griffs have selected defender Ryan Schroen and goalkeeper Andrew Coughlin as team captains for the 2014 season.
• Schroen, a redshirt junior, is captain for the second-straight season. The anchor of the team’s defense, he missed the 2013 season with an injury and returned to action for the first time in nearly two years last weekend.
• Coughlin transferred to Canisius from Syracuse University in January. He stopped eight shots in his first two games with the Griffs last weekend.

CANISIUS – BUCKNELL SERIES HISTORY
• The two schools are meeting for the fourth time with Bucknell winning two of the three previous meetings.
• Canisius did earn a 3-2 overtime victory last season at Bucknell to open the 2013 campaign. Alex De Carolis netted two second-half goals before Asani Samuels scored in overtime for the win.
• The Bison posted victories over Canisius during both the 2002 and 2008 seasons.

ABOUT THE BISON
• Bucknell is 2-1-0 on the season, coming off a pair of 2-0 victories against Hartwick and St. Francis (Pa.).
• Jonathan Grad leads the Bison with three points this season, while five different players have netted a goal in the team’s three games.
• Clarke Fox has started both wins for the Bucknell, stopping all six shots he has faced while not allowing a goal in 180 minutes of action.

CANISIUS – BRYANT SERIES HISTORY
• The Griffs and Bulldogs are meeting for the first time on the soccer pitch.

ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
• Bryant enters the weekend with a 1-1-0 record.
• The Bulldogs opened the season with a 2-0 loss to Providence before rebounding with a 2-0 win at New Hampshire.
• Thomas Binder and Brett Lorocque scored the two goals in the win over the Wildcats.
• Chris Knaub has started both games in goal with a 1.00 goals against average and .818 save percentage.
