The Canisius College softball program will hosts its annual “Cancer Awareness Games” on Thursday, April 18, when the Golden Griffins play host to long-time rival Niagara in a MAAC doubleheader at the Demske Sports Complex. Game time for the first game of the twinbill is set to begin at 3 p.m.
In between games, the softball program will be raising money for the Western New York Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Fund by hosting a “Home Run Derby”. Contestants will be able to sign up to take part in the home run hitting contest during game one of the doubleheader, and a $5 donation gets a contestant three swings. The contestant with the most home runs will win a prize from the Canisius athletic department. Canisius will also be passing the hat around the stands during both games for donations to the Western New York Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Fund.
The softball program also announced today that the team’s doubleheader against Robert Morris, originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 16 at 3 p.m., at the Demske Sports Complex, has been postponed. No make-up date has been announced.The Griffs are 17-14 overall and 2-2 in the MAAC after the team split a MAAC doubleheader with Marist at home April 13. Canisius is hitting .306 as a team, with five players recording 25 or more hits on the year through the team’s first 31 contests. The games against Niagara mark the midway points of the Blue and Gold’s 10-game homestand at the Demske Sports Complex.
