The Canisius volleyball team has announced its 2013 schedule, which features 14 matches in the Koessler Athletic Center.
The Golden Griffins will open the season by hosting four teams in the KAC. Canisius will open play against Eastern Michigan and North Carolina State on Friday, Aug. 30, and then take on Hartford and Cleveland State on Aug. 31, as the Griffs are hosting a tournament for the first time since the 2010 campaign.
After traveling to the Mountaineer Invitational at West Virginia and the Bucknell Invitational, the Golden Griffins host cross-town rival the University at Buffalo in the KAC on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The Griffs and the Bulls have split their last six meetings, with Buffalo winning in four sets last season after the Griffs won in four sets in 2011.
Canisius opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, which features the addition of Quinnipiac, at Saint Peter’s (Sept. 21) and Rider (Sept. 22). The Griffs return to the KAC for a five-match homestand, which includes hosting rival Niagara University on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Canisius then plays seven of its next nine matches on the road, starting with a match against defending league champion Fairfield University (Oct. 12) and including matches at Niagara (Oct. 19) and Siena (Nov. 9). The Griffs close out conference play on the last weekend of the regular season against Quinnipiac (Nov. 16) and Fairfield (Nov. 17).
The 2013 MAAC Championship will take place on the campus of Siena College (Nov. 23-24) as the Saints are hosting the conference tournament for the first time since the 2008 season.
Canisius posted a 16-13 record during the 2012 season, including a 13-5 record in conference play. The Griffs have played in the semifinals of the MAAC Championship five times in the last seven seasons, posting 78 wins in conference play during that timeframe.
