The Canisius women’s basketball team has announced its non-conference schedule for the 2013-14 basketball season. The Golden Griffins will play nine non-conference games as with the expansion of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference to 11 teams, the conference schedule will feature 20 games.

“I like the balance of our non-conference schedule in terms of competition as well as with the travel,” Canisius coach Terry Zeh said. “We will need to have our team ready for conference play a couple of weeks earlier, and I think they will be excited for that new schedule.

Canisius opens at home for the fourth consecutive season when the Golden Griffins host the University of Detroit on Friday, Nov. 8, in the Koessler Athletic Center. The Griffs then play their next three games on the road, starting at Michigan State on Nov. 14. Canisius completes its two-game trip against Oakland on Nov. 16. The Griffs return to New York to play at Binghamton on Nov. 19.

Canisius won’t leave Western New York for more than three weeks, hosting the University of Akron on Nov. 22. The Griffs then play cross-town rival the University at Buffalo on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Canisius hosts St. Bonaventure a week later on Dec. 4, and then faces Bryant University on Dec. 7. After taking the week off for final examinations, the Griffs wrap up the non-conference schedule at Vermont on Dec. 16.

The 20-game MAAC schedule is slated to be released in September.
