The Canisius College swimming and diving teams split with Colgate on Saturday. The men took the top-spot in every individual event en route to a dominant 203-86 victory over the Raiders.

The women’s meet went back and forth, with the Griffs being out-touched in the final three events, to ultimately fall 163-133.

Ten different men earned individual victories for Canisius on the afternoon, with sophomore Spencer Bray leading the way with wins in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles as well as the 200-yard backstroke. Bray broke the school-record in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.91. Former teammate Shawn Parkhurst owned the previous record in the event.

Junior Sam Hansen earned a pair of individual victories in the meet. He was the top-finisher in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:03.46) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.09).

Seven freshmen swam their way to individual wins in the meet for the men. Jerry Daigler started things off with a win in the 100-yard backstroke (55.25). Scott McLaughlin swam to a first place finish for the first time in his collegiate career in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Matt Tanchick set a new career-best in the 200-yard butterfly during his victory with a time of (1:56.76), as did Cam MacDonald who broke his previous best by a hundredth of a second during his first-career first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.

Colin Landweer earned another win for the Griffs in the 100-yard freestyle (48.62). Jared Charleston (100-yard butterfly) and Adam Bonk (1-meter dive) also won their respective events for Canisius. Charleston set a new career-best in the event (53.14).

In addition to the strong individual performances, Canisius also swept both relays on the men’s side.

The women also saw a school record fall as freshman Marissa Watroba broke the school mark in the 200-yard breaststroke that was previously held by teammate Alex Doody. Watroba finished the event with a time of 2:28.43, 0.17 seconds faster than the previous record.

Canisius earned wins in three other events during the meet. Sophomore diver Audrey Mulhisen took the top-spot on both boards, the first time she’s won either event this season.

Sophomore Alicia Wheeler set a season-best in the 200-yard butterfly. Her time of 2:12.87 was good for a first place finish.

The Griffs will now have a 10-day layoff before they return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 3 when they head to Cleveland State for the team’s final road meet of the season. That meet is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
