Women's Lacrosse To Meet Penn in NCAA Tournament

The Canisius College women’s lacrosse team will play Penn in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 9 the NCAA announced Sunday on the Tournament Selection Show.

Canisius, who is appearing in its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament will square off with the Quakers in College Park, Maryland, with the winner taking on Maryland.

It is the first-ever meeting with Penn in program history.

The Blue and Gold is seeking its first NCAA Tournament win after falling in the first round of the previous three tournaments, including a one-goal loss at Penn State last season.

The tournament features 24 teams, with the Griffs having previously taken on four- different included in the 2014 tournament already this season (No. 2 Syracuse, No. 4 North Carolina, No. 6 Boston College and No. 10 Ohio State) with Canisius 1-3 against those opponents.

The Blue and Gold reached the tournament due to an 11-9 victory over Marist in the MAAC Championship game on Sunday, which resulted in Canisius securing the league’s automatic bid.

First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
