In conjunction with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, recently graduated Canisius women’s basketball player Jen Morabito has been selected as one of 13 student-athletes to receive a Victory Scholarship from Sport Changes Life. At Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, Morabito will be able to continue playing basketball, pursue a graduate degree in international studies and perform volunteer work as mentors to disadvantaged youth.
“I couldn’t be more grateful and eager for what this upcoming year’s adventure may bring as I travel to Ireland with the Victory Scholar Program,” Morabito said. “I’m excited to continue playing the sport that has opened up many doors, and that has helped me meet some of my greatest friends.
“This opportunity has certainly exceeded my aspirations, and I look forward to being a positive influence for the youth in Ireland that many of my coaches have been to me while growing up. My thanks go out to all my family, friends, coaches and individuals who have supported me through my life.”
As part of an agreement with the MAAC, Sport Changes Life provides two full scholarships each year to MAAC scholar-athletes who wish to pursue advanced study in graduate programs at top universities in Ireland while contributing to community service programs for youth at risk and continuing to play their sport. The “MAAC Sport Changes Life Victory Scholars” will be trained to coach and mentor young people at risk in local communities while gaining and sharing invaluable life experience, as well as progressing their academic and life goals.
Morabito appeared in 116 career games with the Golden Griffins and averaged 7.3 points per game. She ranked fourth in program history with 198 3-pointers and third with a 36.5 career 3-point field goal percentage. Morabito made a 3-pointer in 91 career games and three or more 3-pointers 29 times. She reached double figures 31 times in her career and earned MAAC All-Rookie Team honors as a freshman in 2011.
The Binghamton, N.Y. native was a three-time selection to the MAAC All-Academic Team and graduated with a 3.42 GPA and a degree in marketing. Morabito will complete her Master’s degree in health and human performance at Canisius this summer.
