William J. Piccolo '43 - Known as "Mr. Football" and "Injun Joe" during his college career, Piccolo was an outstanding center and was captain-elect of the 1942 eleven before being drafted to the army.  The 1943 edition of the Griffin relates a story of Piccolo singing, "I'm drafted, I'm drafted, Piccolo is drafted, the New York Giants picked me up and put me on their ball club" to the tune of "A Tisket, A Tasket." After a service discharge he saw three years of service with Steve Owens' New York Giants and in 1948 he became a line coach for his alma mater, returning under head coach Jim Wilson.
