Joe Szur '37 - A three-sport star, Szur was a forward in basketball, an infielder in baseball and a triple threat halfback for the football team. On the turf he earned 12 points in seven games during the 1934 season, placing second on the team behind fellow Hall of Famer Frank Rustich in scoring. A great runner, superb punter and good passer, as well as a good defensive player, Szur was a better than average student. In basketball, he was a starter under Hall of Famer coach Allie Seelbach, especially noted in his freshman season for his dead-eye quarter-court shot. In 1936, Szur's #15 was retired in recognition of his accomplishments.  A captain that year for the football team, he began the season with a 19-0 win over St. Vincent, securing a brilliant punt to the opponent 7-yard line.
