Well the Griffs are back from our most recent road trip and we came back from Connecticut with only one point. The overall feeling after the weekend was we definitely played better than the one point out of a possible four to show for it.

We knew we were playing one of the hottest teams in college hockey in Sacred Heart and the results from the weekend demonstrated this. The first night we lost, 4-2, with an empty-netter late in the third period. The next night was the better of the two as we picked up a hard-fought tie against the Pioneers. The weekend was a tale of two games - the first game we only took two penalties, while on Saturday night, our penalty killing and goaltending had to be on to keep us in the game. Both aspects did keep us in the game and we battled back and got a tie. Overall the effort was there, we just need to put together a full 60-minute game to beat opponents in our conference.

This is an interesting week coming up for the Griffs because we do not play this weekend. We will have to wait and see if any teams catch or pass us in the Atlantic Hockey standings as we sit idle this weekend. This week off will allow us to get some much-needed rest after a physical couple games against Sacred Heart.

It also gives the boys a chance to settle into a full week of class since we missed a few days last week. It will give us a chance to get into classes and get caught up on missed work or maybe even get ahead since will be leaving the following week again for Connecticut to take on the University of Connecticut Huskies.

With this weekend off we will not be skating as much but will be in the gym a little bit more over the course of the week. We will be getting in rare Thursday and Friday workouts and an even rarer weekend off.

This does not mean we will be sitting back with our feet up. Most guys will still be in the gym and many will be engaging in the Ice Griff ritual of shooting pucks in our famous "dungeon" deep in the bowels of the KAC. This is usually reserved for the offseason but with the week off, some of the boys will get down under the pool at the KAC and blast a few pucks.

After this week, we will resume a regular week of practice and team activities Monday through Thursday and then hit the road again. This upcoming week will give the Griffs a chance to recharge and work on individual skills as the team gets ready for the playoff push. Well folks, the next time we will talk will be in two weeks time when we return from Connecticut, and until then, keep your stick on the ice.
