The Canisius College men's lacrosse team welcomes the eighth-ranked Cornell Big Red to the Demske Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon for the Griffs' home opener. Game time is set for 4 p.m.

MAN-UP SUCCESS
• One area where the Griffs found a lot of success in their season opener was with the man advantage. Canisius converted 3-of-4 man-up opportunities against No. 17 Harvard.
• Canisius' three man-up goals accounted for half of the team's total output.
• The Griffs have already matched their season high in extra-man goals from the 2009 season, accomplished once against Mount St. Mary's.
• Canisius currently ranks second nationally by converting at a rate of 75 percent this season with the man advantage. In 2009, the Griffs placed 27th nationally with an extra-man unit that performed at a rate of 32.5 percent.

COATES DEFENDS POSITION MOVE
• Just one game into the 2010 season, senior Dan Coates proved that his move to close defense was a wise decision.
• In his first career start at close defense, Coates posted career highs and led all players with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
• Coates played his first two seasons with the short-stick as a defensive midfielder. In 25 career games, he recorded 22 ground balls and five caused turnovers.

BENZINGER AND CALDIERO LOOK TO REGAIN 2008 FORM
• Seniors Mike Benzinger and Alex Caldiero started their final season with Canisius strong, looking like the pair that helped Canisius to the 2008 MAAC title.
• The duo combined for half of the team's six goals against No. 17 Harvard. Benzinger posted a team-best two goals, while Caldiero also netted a score.
• Last season, Benzinger and Caldiero combined to record nine points and five goals after totaling a combined 31 points and 21 goals as sophomores in 2008.

JONES STARTS 2010 CAMPAIGN AS HE FINISHED 2009
• Junior Adam Jones picked up this season right where he left off in 2009. Jones led the Griffs with three points on a pair of goals and an assist against No. 17 Harvard.
• Last season, Jones recorded 38 points, scoring a team-best 33 goals.
• The junior is quickly approaching the 100-point mark for his career. Jones has accumulated 88 career points and is just 12 points shy of becoming the 15th player in school history to record 100 career points.

CANISIUS - CORNELL SERIES HISTORY
• Canisius will face the Big Red for the seventh time in the program's history.
• Cornell has won each of the six previous meetings by an average score of 18-6.
• The two schools will be meeting for the first time at the Demske Sports Complex. Each of the first six games in the series have been played at Cornell.
• Last season, fourth-ranked Cornell defeated the Griffs by a score of 14-4. Freshman Jimmy Haney led Canisius with two goals, while Bryan Jack recorded 12 saves in goal. Current starting goalie Sean Callahan saw his only action of the 2009 season against Cornell, playing four minutes.

ABOUT THE BIG RED
• Cornell enters Tuesday's game with a No. 8 national ranking. The Big Red are the highest-ranked team to play at the Demske Sports Complex.
• Last season, Cornell finished with a 13-4 record and advanced to the NCAA Championship game before falling to Syracuse 10-9 in overtime.
• The Big Red opened the 2010 campaign with a 10-7 victory over Hobart on Tuesday.
• Rob Pannell led Cornell with five points against Hobart, scoring two goals and adding three assists. Scott Austin, Ryan Hurley and Mitch McMichael also netted two scores in the win.
• Freshman AJ Fiore earned his first career victory in his first collegiate start, playing all 60 minutes and recording nine saves.
