Another week down and still no games. While these weeks of preseason are important to get systems in order the guys are getting the itch. The physicality at practices is picking up and while guys are working to get better, part of me believes everyone is just ready to hit someone and their only option right now is to hit each other.
Either way, we are all working hard and luckily we will get a taste of game action this Sunday with an exhibition game against Queens College. With so many freshmen this year and the season about to get underway, I felt I should give some background on our newcomers.
Keegan Asmundson - He is 6-5 so he was the first one who came to my mind. Quick for such a big guy. Goalies have always been known to be a little different. I get the sense he is no exception. Good kid.
Logan Roe- Our only prep school player on the team, which could possibly explain the boat shoes he wore with his black suit to the Annual Athletes Mass. Another big kid. Looking forward to seeing him play.
Mac Scott- Might lull you to sleep with kindness off the ice but has shown upside on it. Talented player and a great kid.
Carl Larsson- I took Carl to the Foo Fighters concert the other day and I think he almost cried when David Grohl came on stage. He has appreciated everything since he arrived here from Sweden and has shown tenacity and competitiveness on the ice.
Braeden Rigney- I made a quick bond with Braeden due to our mutual love for country music. He has a nice set of hands and you can't knock a kid who drives a truck and listens to George Strait.
Mitch McCrank- Our youngest player but hasn't backed down one bit. He is getting better every day and I'm looking forward to watching him mature throughout the year.
Cody Freeman- Strong guy who always seems to be smiling or looking for someone to talk to. It looks like Cody will be a good player and a great teammate.
Tyler Wiseman- While his new haircut has drawn comparisons to Justin Bieber, Tyler has been quick and determined on the ice. Nice kid who always wants to be around the guys.
Doug Jessey- Doug is a manly man from Alberta. Has a shot that has drawn comparisons to alum Carl Hudson and seems to be someone who enjoys the city as much as he does the farm.
Doug Beck- Another freshman that drives a truck which makes me jealous. He has nice flow (hair) that has drawn compliments and a good touch around the net.
Stephen Farrell- A good kid from Ottawa who won the RBC Cup with Pembroke last year. Seems to be a solid defenseman who doesn't make many mistakes.
Matthew Grazen- A local boy from Clarence who is majoring in biology, so will have a lot on his plate. Has shown no fear in practice and is another nice kid.
PHEW! So that's a behind-the-scenes look at our freshmen class. It's a great group of guys we're all looking forward to having this year.
Until next week, keep your head up.
